Attire

Creative Ballet/Pre Ballet 3

Tops

  • Leotards, fitted shirts, or tank tops

  • Avoid anything too baggy or oversized

  • Leotard and skirt combo outfit

Bottoms

  • Leggings, bike shorts, or comfortable pants

  • These should be stretchy and allow for bending, stretching, and jumping.

  • Avoid jeans or stiff materials.

Footwear

  • Ballet slippers or barefoot

  • No socks alone, as they can be slippery.​​​​

Ballet/Jazz, Jazz & Tap

Leotard

  • Solid-colored leotard (pink, lavender, or black preferred)

  • Sleeveless or short-sleeved styles are ideal

  • No Skirts (they are distracting)

Boys

  • Boys-fitted solid cover shirts or tanks

  • Jazz pant or form fitting black tights/joggers

Ballet Socks 

  • Ballet tights for girls

  • Socks or black leggings for boys

Ballet Slippers

  • Pink leather ballet slippers with an elastic strap

  • Please write your dancer’s name inside each shoe

  • Please NO ballet slippers with shoe strings.         

 Tap

  • Black tap shoes with socks 

  • Shoes must ONLY be worn on the tap boards. do not come in from outside in tap shoes. 

Ballet 1/2/3

Leotard

  • Solid-colored leotard (class color may be assigned by level or instructor)

  • Sleeveless, short-sleeved, or camisole styles are acceptable

  • No designs, rhinestones, or logos

  • No Skirts

Boys

  • Boys-fitted solid cover shirts or tanks

  • Jazz pant or form fitting black tights/joggers

 Tights

  • Light pink footed or convertible ballet tights

  • Tights should be clean and free of holes or runs

Ballet Shoes

  • Pink leather or canvas ballet slippers with elastic straps

  • Shoes should fit properly (not too tight or loose)

  • Label shoes with the dancer’s name inside

 Hair

  • Hair must be secured neatly in a ballet bun

  • Shorter hair should be clipped away from the face

  • No large bows or distracting accessories

Musical Theater/Broadway Dance/Broadway Bop

Top

  • leotard or fitted, solid colored tank

  • Must allow free movement without excess fabric

  • No crop tops or strapless shirts

 Bottoms

  • Leggings, jazz pants, or bike shorts

  • No jeans, skirts, or overly loose pants

 Footwear

  • Black jazz shoes or dance sneakers

 Hair

  • Hair should be pulled away from the face in a ponytail, bun, or braid

  • No costumes or distracting clothing

Adaptive Dance/Musical

At Dance With Joy, we welcome all dancers and understand that sensory needs vary. For our adaptive and inclusive musical classes, we encourage attire that supports comfort, movement, and sensory regulation while maintaining safety and ease of instruction.

Tops

  • Fitted, tagless t-shirts, compression shirts, or seamless leotards

  • Soft, breathable, and non-restrictive materials (like cotton or bamboo blends)

Pants

  • Leggings, bike shorts, or soft dance pants 

  • Compression leggings are welcome if calming pressure is helpful

  • Avoid stiff materials or tight elastic bands

Footwear

  • Barefoot, grippy socks, or soft jazz/ballet shoes (as preferred by the dancer)

  • Footwear should not slip or cause irritation

  • Sensory-friendly options (like split-sole shoes or no seams) are encouraged

Ballet Barre

 Tops

  • Athletic tops

  • Avoid loose or oversized shirts, as instructors need to see body alignment

Bottoms

  • Leggings, fitted biker shorts

 Footwear

  • Barefeet
